Wine & Brew at the Zoo – And a Ticket Giveaway!

Wine & Brew at the Zoo – And a Ticket Giveaway!

If the idea of an adults-only evening where you can sip a glass of wine while checking out the giraffes at the Sacramento Zoo sounds like your kind of night out, then you’re in luck! The Zoo’s annual event is back, (they took a year off in 2015), and the new-and-improved version of the event sounds like it may just be a wild success.

Formerly known as the “Kings of Feasts,” the event has now been re-branded to “Wine & Brew at the Zoo.” This year, 28 local wineries and breweries will serve samples while guests are entertained by live music, a silent auction and of course the exotic zoo animals. Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks with 10% of the sales benefiting the non-profit Sacramento Zoo.

Here are the event details:... Read More

Four-legged friends will strut by while competing in an entertaining costume contest that will include playful prizes for the winning pooches.

First Father's Day for the Lion

First Father's Day for the Lion

In honor of Father’s Day, the Zoo’s first-time lion dad received a special-themed enrichment. A Zebra pinata!
Male African Lion with his Zebra pinataLion dads are unique among cats because they are involved in rearing their offspring. Other cats are fairly solitary and come together for breeding, then separate. This leaves the female to raise the offspring on her own. Also unlike other cats, lions are very social and live in prides whose members often live very close together for extended periods of time. Lion cubs are closely-knitted to their pride. Adult lions keep their youngsters close by for up to three years. Other cat species will push their youngsters to be on their own by one year of age... Read More

Midtown Business Association’s Pop-Up Dog Park To “Pop Up” Twice This Summer

Midtown Business Association’s Pop-Up Dog Park To “Pop Up” Twice This Summer

Plans are afoot to have Midtown Sacramento’s popular Pop-Up Dog Park “pop up” twice this summer – on Saturday, June 20, on the grounds of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park to showcase Sutter Medical Center’s “Pet Therapy Program” during their large-scale Community Day and then on Saturday, August 1, adjacent to the thriving Midtown Farmers Market on 20th Street between J & K.  Led by the Midtown Business Association and with the help of involved community partners -- such as local animal shelters, the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a local landscape architect and a number of willing volunteers -- the first “Pop-Up Dog Park” debuted in Midtown in April 2014 to the delight of countless canines and their companions.
