Front Street Shelter Adoption Events

The Sacramento Front Street Shelter sponsors many adoption events at several pet centers throughout the city.  Recently, at Pet Extreme on Sutterville Road,  Lola Montez, a 7-year-old Teacup Chihuahua, stirred up lots of attention. Lola is currently being fostered off-site, but the shelter is full of precious pooches on site as well, all in need of a loving forever home.

Five Ways to Enjoy Sacramento with your Dog

Five Ways to Enjoy Sacramento with your Dog

Sacramento’s moderate climate is perfect for a fun-filled day with the family – including the family dog. We’ve put together a list of five ways to enjoy California’s capital city with your dog.

1. Take your four-legged friend to a Sacramento dog park

Pet of the Week- Sancho

Pet of the Week- Sancho

Sancho has a lot to say, and he wants you to know he's a great catch! Talkative and energetic, this little three-year-old Chihuahua is a very good boy. He enjoys walking with our volunteers and loves any opportunity to play with his human friends. He's looking for a home that is home often.

SPCA Pet of the Week- Bunny (the pup!)

SPCA Pet of the Week- Bunny (the pup!)

Great little pup looking for a home! Bunny is about five-months-old and has been here at the shelter since April. She is outgoing, playful and friendly like most puppies, and should benefit well from some positive reinforcement training. Bunny loves playing with other dogs and will try to sit in your lap.

River Cats Zoo Night!

River Cats Zoo Night!

Have you ever seen a cat in a turtle shell?

You can come see it and some great baseball at Raley Field, Friday, May 31 when you cheer on the Sacramento River Cats and support the Zoo!

Sacramento River Cats players will wear a special edition turtle shell print jersey that simply cannot be missed (shown below). Dinger will be sporting one too! Through the game you can bid on these jerseys in a silent auction on the concourse. Net proceeds will go to the Sacramento Zoo. If you win, at the end of the game, the jersey on your favorite player (or Dinger) could be yours!

Heroic tree trimmer reunites treed cat with 5-year-old girl

Heroic tree trimmer reunites treed cat with 5-year-old girl

SACRAMENTO - A tree trimmer became a local hero Friday morning after rescuing a little girl's best friend from a 40-foot pine tree.

Little  Bella Cantori's cat Duchess had been missing for about five days when neighbor JoAnn Iverson and her husband were out on a walk Wednesday.

"We were walking by the condominium complex and a woman asked if we knew how to get a cat out of a tree because it had been up there for a week," said Iverson.

Iverson said she called the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, who directed her to Animal Control, who in turn directed her to the Sac Metro Fire Dept.

"The fire department came out Wednesday night and tried everything they could to get the cat," Iverson said.
