Midtown Business Association’s Pop-Up Dog Park To “Pop Up” Twice This Summer

Plans are afoot to have Midtown Sacramento’s popular Pop-Up Dog Park “pop up” twice this summer – on Saturday, June 20, on the grounds of Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park to showcase Sutter Medical Center’s “Pet Therapy Program” during their large-scale Community Day and then on Saturday, August 1, adjacent to the thriving Midtown Farmers Market on 20th Street between J & K.  Led by the Midtown Business Association and with the help of involved community partners -- such as local animal shelters, the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a local landscape architect and a number of willing volunteers -- the first “Pop-Up Dog Park” debuted in Midtown in April 2014 to the delight of countless canines and their companions.

Sutter’s Fort to Present “Hands on History: A Community of Many Faces” on 5/16!

Continuing a popular series of interactive and fun “Hands on History” activities each month,  Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) will present a special “Hands on History: A Community of Many Faces” event on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The special “Hands on History: A Community of Many Faces” event will celebrate and honor the richly diverse cultures represented at the Fort.  In fact, the Gold Rush of 1849 brought tens of thousands of people to California from all over the world.  But even before the first gold seekers arrived, Sutter’s Fort was already a melting pot of ethnic, social and cultural diversity.  In the New Helvetia Diary (the daily log book of Sutter’s Fort), there are at least 30 different groups of Native people mentioned as having visited the Fort and/or provided labor for John Sutter.
