10 "don't miss" events to consume during Sac Beer Week

SACRAMENTO - This year's Sacramento Beer Week features 10 days filled to the brim with more than 160 different events, making it difficult -- both logistically and physically -- to partake in all the fun.

To help narrow down your selection, we've gone through the entire lineup and picked out the following 10 events - one per day - we feel are particularly worth adding to your Beer Week itinerary. Although 10 consecutive days of imbibing may still be a tall order, it would probably be a fun quest to undertake:

Friday, Feb. 22 -Powerhouse Science Night with Dr. Charlie Bamforth - Coyote Taphouse - Scrap the image of some nerdy scientist boring you to sleep with the chemistry of fermentation. A session with Dr. Bamforth is more like an intellectual stand-up comedy routine centered around all things beer. Guests also receive an exclusive 16 oz. Powerhouse beer glass and a chilled bottle of Guinness' new Black Label Lager with a suggested donation of $5.

Saturday, Feb. 23 -Local Brewery Tap Takeover - Final Gravity - The perfect opportunity to get to know the Sacramento-based beers, and some of their brewers, in one sitting. 24 beers will be on tap and more in the bottle from Knee Deep, Track 7, Berryessa Brewing Co., Roseville Brewing, Auburn Ale House, American River Brewing Co., River City, and Loomis Basin Brewing Co.

Sunday, Feb. 24 -Beer, Brunch and Bikes - Hot Italian - This event combines two of Sacramento's great pastimes - drinking good beer and cycling. Tastings of Sierra Nevada Blonde Ale, Hop Harmony Experimental IPA, and Ruthless Rye are the order of the day, with bloody beers also available to complement Hot Italian's amazing brunch. Attendees can also meet and shop local bike companies such as Duso, Rivet Cycle Works, Toro Quality Goods, and Revolights, and get your bike ready for Spring with a wash benefiting The Met High School Bike Collective!

Monday, Feb. 25 - Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op - Cooking with Beer - Chef Gigi will demonstrate how beer can transform  any dish from ordinary to extraordinary. Also, a special guest from Sacramento's Ruhstaller Beer will lead a tasting of their beers and share some of the history and lore of Sacramento's brewing tradition.

Tuesday, Feb. 26 - MIX - Bootleg Tuesday Presents: A Night of Craft Beer Cocktails - Exciting and extravagant handcrafted libations made with the finest microbrews, premium spirits, and fresh produce, all crafted in house from scratch served to a hip modern mix of alternative rock, funk, and hip hop.

Wednesday, Feb. 27 - Pangaea - Shelton Brothers Importers -  Shelton Brothers imports brings some of the best and hardest to find beers from all over the world to Pangaea. For the avid beer drinker, this is your chance to get your hands on some of those amazing beers you've only heard about. And if you're new to beer, this is a great chance to experience a wide range of tastes. Arrive early to ensure you get a taste!

Thursday, Feb. 28 - Rubicon Brewing - Famous Firkin Festival - Cask-conditioned ales add a totally unique flavor to beer. Rubicon's annual celebration of cask-conditioned ale celebration brings 20 rare cask beers from across California to Sacramento.

Friday, Mar. 1 - Ten22 - Beer Cans and Bad Coats - Cast aside the misconception that beer in a can is cheap, tasteless and watered-down. Beer Cans and Bad Coats offers an all-you-can-eat dinner menu that includes street corn, carne asada, grilled prawns, s'mores and some of the best local and craft beers that come in a can. Bring a new or gently used coat to donate to the Sacramento Food Bank and receive $5 off the cost of the event.

Saturday, Mar. 2 - Cal Expo - Capital Beerfest - The 3rd annual Capital Beerfest is expected to attract more than 75 breweries, including every Sacramento-area brewery. Not attending this grand finale would be like running a marathon and stopping two inches shy of the finish line.

Sunday, Mar. 3 - Sacramento Beer Train - This 3-hour scenic train ride includes 10 tastings from four local Sacramento breweries, souvenir tasting glass, and live music. Additional food and drink will be available for purchase.

*Notable Mentions - (Hey, it's hard to narrow it down to 10!)

Friday, Mar. 1 - Sunday, Mar. 3 - Hot City Pizza - Hop Yo Face Off - Hot City Pizza taps 16 premium single, double, and triple IPAs from their favorite breweries. Singles, Doubles, Triples, Belgian, Belgian-style, Brett...you name it, it will be on tap! Check for special Sacramento Beer Week hours.

Sunday, Mar. 3 - The Shack - Shackfest 2013 - Rapidly becoming a staple of the Beer Week agenda, Shackfest combines great local food, great local beer, and great local music. Last year's event also offered visitors the chance to meet and talk suds with some great local brewers.
