News10 Blood Donor Day collects more than 2,600 pints

Final 2011 total: 2,688

SACRAMENTO, CA - News10 Blood Donor Day is today and donors are responding. The final total was 2,688 pints of blood have been donated. Last year, the event collected 2,620 pints of blood.

You can donate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at News10 in Sacramento, Roseville Sports Center, Delta Blood Bank in Stockton, Wackford Community Center in Elk Grove, The MRPS Hall in Manteca or at any BloodSource location.

Saturn storm visible from Earth; can be viewed locally

SACRAMENTO, CA- A storm on Saturn the Cassini spacecraft has been tracking since last December is visible from Earth from even telescopes of modest size.

Casual observers at a regional observatory noticed the storm last Thursday, according to Sacramento City College Professor of Astronomy Liam McDade.

The Sacramento City College Observatory will let the public track Saturn and possibly view the storm every Friday this July. The observatory will be open to the public on July 8, 15, 22, and 29 starting at 9:30 pm.

SACRAMENTO (June 27, 2011) – Drexel University awarded 108 master’s level diplomas on Saturday, June 25, at its first commencement for the university’s Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento.

Sacramento’s historic Crocker Art Museum played host for the this historic event – the first group of Drexel students in Sacramento to graduate and the first commencement ceremony outside of Philadelphia in the university’s 120-year history.

The commencement included students who enrolled in Drexel master’s degree programs in 2009.

This Saturday, June 25th, at 11am, the 2nd Annual Albie Puttin’ Pub Crawl will launch its shotgun start for an event that puts… or better yet, putts the fun back in fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting Albie Aware, a Sacramento non-profit which raises money to provide breast cancer prevention education and helps patients pay for expensive diagnostic screening tests.
(Registration is at 10am at the 15th & K Street Parking Lot)
At 11am, players will fan out for a shotgun start “Putt-Tournament” at 9 different downtown pubs, (all within walking distance of each other) where their putting skills will be tested in 9 very different and creative “themed” golf holes, that are being built by employees of the participating pubs.

Sacramento lights to be a blazed with “Green Lantern” symbol Monday night

To celebrate the June 17 theatrical release of the Warner Bros. Pictures film, “Green Lantern”, Sacramento has been picked along with ten other North American cities to illuminate its sky with the “Green Lantern” symbol Monday, June 13.

According to Warner Bros., the Green Lantern Corps fans were invited to decipher local clues leading them to a secret location where the “Green Lantern” symbol would be projected from dusk until midnight. Sacramento fans were quick to unlock the clues, and discovered the location to be the L Wine Lounge, located at1801 L. Street in Sacramento.
