Downtown Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink Announces Holiday Hours

The Downtown Sacramento Partnership has announced special holiday hours for the Downtown Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink, the area’s oldest and most beloved outdoor ice rink.   Located at the corner of 7th and K Streets, the rink is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through January 3 (except on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed on Christmas Day, and on New Year’s Eve from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.).   As of January 4, normal operating hours will resume and the rink will remain open through January 18, 2016.  

As an added holiday experience, ice skaters and their families can visit with Santa Claus on Friday, December 18 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.  Skaters are encouraged to bring a camera and/or smart phone for free photos with Santa (included with paid admission).

Sacramento -- Thursday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. is Showtime at Tahoe Elementary when students present their Winter Show. Tahoe Elementary is at 3110 60th Street (off Broadway) Sacramento 95820.

Home-baked goodies will be sold to raise funds for student activities, including Field Trips (we all remember Field Trips!) and other special events during this school year.

Parents may drop off Baked Goods in Room 18 on Thursday morning, Dec. 17.  Parents wishing to donate Baked Goods should contact Rosanne-Yee@scusd.edu to obtain specific details about Bake Sale guidelines.

Tahoe Elementary teacher Gordon Katz reminds parents and students this week is the Book Fair. Please contact him at Gordon-Katz@scusd.edu for information about donating books and cash to put books in students hands and knowledge in their brains!

To the delight of children of all ages, it’s all aboard for a special story time with Capital Public Radio Host (and former ABC10 news anchor) Beth Ruyak on Monday, December 7, 2015.  With the help of Beth reading the illustrated children’s book Thomas and the Christmas Tree by Richard Courtney at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., parents are encouraged to let trains and railroading introduce and foster the love of reading with young children.

Railroad Museum to Showcase a Family-Favorite “Small Train Holiday” on November 27 & 28

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum have exciting plans to dazzle, delight and engage post-Thanksgiving visitors with a special “Small Train Holiday” on Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, 2015.

For this special two-day holiday extravaganza, the Museum brings together a magical assortment of trains, hundreds of feet of track and an array of buildings and accessories. For just two days a year, local organizations and devoted individuals set up shop in the Museum, filling the Roundhouse with delightful model and toy train layouts of every description. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of the collectors. Additionally, guests can enjoy participating in a discovery-filled scavenger hunt throughout the Museum.

Downtown Holiday Ice Rink Returns for 24th Season!

The official start of the winter season in Sacramento will kick off with the opening of the Downtown Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink, Sacramento’s oldest and most beloved outdoor ice rink, on November 6 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 pm and free skating for all.


Organized by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) and situated in the heart of downtown at the corner of 7th and K streets, the ice rink has been a seasonal landmark on the Kay since 1991 and offers a playful escape into an urban winter wonderland for kids and adults alike.


“There’s something magical about being downtown for the holidays,” said Michael Ault, Executive Director of the Downtown Sacramento Partership. “The downtown ice rink is a place where families, couples, and friends have been coming to for more than 20 years to enjoy the holiday season and create treasured holiday memories.”
