Concert in the Park canceled due to rain

After a week of wild Sacramento weather, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership has cancelled tonight’s Friday Night Concert in the Park at Cesar Chavez Plaza due to threat of rain. This week’s concert was scheduled to feature blues, jazz and rockabilly styling of Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers, Tess and the Hip Trash, and The Kyle Rowland Band.

“Stormy weather and rain showers are typically not a concern for us once we get into June,” said Lisa Martinez, DSP director of marketing and outreach. “We don’t often cancel a concert but with this week’s crazy weather and all of the sound equipment on site, we feel its best to err on the side of caution.”

Mick Martin fans, fear not. The Friday Night Concert Series will be extended an additional week in August to allow Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers, Tess and the Hip Trash, and Kyle Rowland fans the opportunity to see the acts this year. This new concert date is scheduled for  August 19, 2011.

Tonight’s Concert in the Park is not the only victim of the chance of showers. The DSP’s new Rock & Roll History Tour and Pub Crawl, which coincides with Concerts in the Park each Friday at 6 pm has also been cancelled. The tour series will also be extended thru August 19. Tickets for next week’s tour can be purchased by visiting DowntownSac.org/Tours.

The Friday Night Concerts in the Park are produced by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and are presented by Budweiser. The event is sponsored by CBS 13, CW 31, Revolution Wines, Arrowhead Water, SAFE Credit Union, Radio 94.7, The Eagle and Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA).
