Spring Beauties Awaken

Spring Beauties Awaken

Join Historic Rose Garden curator Anita Clevenger and Hamilton Square's Perennial Garden's manager Leslie Hurlburt to see and smell spring flowers that have emerged from a brief winter slumber and are blooming brightly throughout the gardens. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour either or both gardens, spending time with volunteers who created and care for them. The Sacramento Historic Rose Garden recently won the World Federation of Rose Societies' Garden of Excellence award, recognized for the volunteers' work to collect and preserve roses from the Mother Lode and beyond. Hamilton Square has been recognized for its creation of habitat for native bees. Both gardens are nestled among the cemetery's monuments, re-creating the garden cemetery that was established in 1849. In spring, the combination of blooms and tombs are at their best.

Urban Attitudes by La-Z-Boy Furnishings Collection Featured at “The Mill at Broadway” New Model Home

After years of housing stagnation, Sacramento is once again becoming the hotbed for new home developments with fresh and updated interiors.  Recently, the VP of Design for the local La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, Palm Singh, was selected to design one of the largest new home models in the “The Mill at Broadway” development built by Bardis Homes.  Created as an urban residential community in downtown Sacramento, “The Mill at Broadway” new home models opened to the public on October 24, 2015.

After a designer-search contest last year, Bardis Homes assembled a “dream team” of eight local designers, including Singh, who were tasked with transforming the various model homes with fresh and contemporary interiors that reflect the desire for more casually living and still be at prices that buyers could afford.

Open Garden in the Sacramento Old City Cemetery

Open Garden in the Sacramento Old City Cemetery

The gardens of the Historic City Cemetery will be in full bloom during our annual Open Garden. The fragrance of the old roses of the award-winning Historic Rose Garden will fill the air as 500 roses clamber up trees, cover archways and bloom on big shrubs in this unique 19th century setting.  Perennial and native plant gardens will also be featured. The day begins with a sale of rare heritage rose plants and continues with free tours of the gardens and cemetery, a Silent Auction, and sales of rose merchandise.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance.  Tours are free; however, donations and proceeds will benefit cemetery preservation projects.
