SACRAMENTO - Californians have seen a substantial drop in gas prices since this past summer. But while California's gas prices have declined, they are still significantly higher than those in Missouri, which is seeing the lowest prices in the country at $2.95 a gallon. But, for California standards, there is some relatively cheap gas to be found.

The cheapest that News10 could find Tuesday morning is at three gas stations in Citrus Heights, where a gallon of regular unleaded is listed at $3.15.

Costco at 7000 Auburn Blvd., Sam's Club at 7147 Greenback Ln., and the Arco at 5440 San Juan Ave. are all below the national average of $3.25 a gallon, the lowest average in two years.

When gas prices began to drop in the late summer months, analysts were predicting that the state could see prices drop to $3.20 by New Year's Eve. And it looks like that is going to happen if the trend continues.

For the month of December, gas prices have dropped daily. Since mid-September the price of a gallon of gas has dropped 62 cents.

The holiday traveling period officially begins this Saturday. 84-million American are expected to hit the road over the holidays, and with the trend of declining gas prices, those travelers should have a little extra money to jam one or two more gifts into the trunk.
