West Sacramento program aims to turn empty lots into farming fields

A unique program in West Sacramento is helping first-time farmers kick start their careers in the agriculture industry.

After many years of training, farmer Tyler Stowers finally has his own place to grow food: from kale and broccoli, to other leafy greens.

Tech will be major focus at Golden 1 Center


From the street, it’s easy to get a sense of what the Sacramento Kings’ new home will look like at the Golden 1 Center.

Now, the focus is shifting to finishing the inside of the arena. Team president Chris Granger says the Kings are placing a major emphasis on technology – including what will be the largest video board in the NBA.

Regional Transit fares could go up 20 percent

Sacramento Regional Transit is considering proposals to increase bus and light rail fares by up to 20 percent this summer.

The Regional Transit board is slated to discuss the proposals Monday night, and a vote is expected March 14. If the proposals are approved, the new fares will take effect July 1. 

Mom arrested after child, 5, found outside home at 2:30 a.m.

A Sacramento mom was arrested after her 5-year-old girl was found alone outside their home early Saturday morning. 

At 2:30 a.m. Sacramento Police were called about a child neglect incident  at a home on James Way, off Fruitridge Road. 

After police found the girl alone outside they called her mother, 35-year-old Martha Camacho. When Camacho arrived at the home she told police her child was being watched by another person. 

Police have not confirmed Camacho's claim. After further investigation, Camacho was arrested on child endangerment charges and bailed out later Saturday. 



Six people injured in North Highlands car accident


Six people are being treated after two cars collided on Watt Avenue and Peacekeeper Way on Friday night. 

Police said the accident happened at around 9 p.m. and involved a Honda Civic and a Ford Explorer.

All 6 people were taken to the hospital, 4 with serious injuries. One person is believed to have life-threatening injuries. 

It is unknown if weather was a factor in the accident.
