Downtown Holiday Ice Rink Returns for 24th Season!

The official start of the winter season in Sacramento will kick off with the opening of the Downtown Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink, Sacramento’s oldest and most beloved outdoor ice rink, on November 6 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 pm and free skating for all.


Organized by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) and situated in the heart of downtown at the corner of 7th and K streets, the ice rink has been a seasonal landmark on the Kay since 1991 and offers a playful escape into an urban winter wonderland for kids and adults alike.


“There’s something magical about being downtown for the holidays,” said Michael Ault, Executive Director of the Downtown Sacramento Partership. “The downtown ice rink is a place where families, couples, and friends have been coming to for more than 20 years to enjoy the holiday season and create treasured holiday memories.”

The Sacramento Kings have partnered with the City of Elk Grove for 1 of only 2 City nights at the Arena this season!!  Come show your City pride as the Kings take on the Houston Rockets on this nationally televised game on Friday, November 6th.  Tickets start as low as just $21 and 20% of every ticket sold will benefit the Elk Grove Food Bank Services.  With more than 4,000 residents relying on the help of the Food Bank monthly, these funds will go towards a great cause.

Mayor Gary Davis will be on-site to give out the key to the City to retired NFL player and Elk Grove High School alumni Lance Briggs, there will be special give-aways from the City, Elk Grove services on the concourse and so much more.  Bling out a homemade sign and you could be chosen for a seat upgrade!  Most importantly, bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Elk Grove Food Bank and you could also win an upgraded seat.

California Dream Tennis Team Opening Night Monday!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (DATE) – Sacramento’s California Dream professional tennis team is proud to announce that single and general admission tickets are now on sale for its inaugural season presented by Sunrise Marketplace. The California Dream will play seven home matches at its 2,400-seat venue at North end of Sunrise Mall in the Sunrise MarketPlace in Citrus Heights. Calling all cheerleaders, dancers and gymnasts!  Cheer Sacramento, Sacramento’s original “Charitable Cheerleaders,” is holding tryouts for the 2015-2016 season! 

Tryouts will be held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Royals All-Stars gym (8382 Rovana Circle, Sacramento, CA 95828).

Arden Hills-trained Collin Altamirano plays role in University of Virginia winning NCAA championship

Collin Altamirano, a rising national tennis champion on scholarship at the University of Virginia (UVa) who continues to train at JMG Tennis Academy at Arden Hills in the off season, played a key role in the men’s tennis team winning the NCAA Championship title on May 19, 2015.  Ranked third going into the tournament, the Cavaliers defeated top-seeded Oklahoma in a 4-1 victory in Waco, Texas.  In fact, Virginia defeated Oklahoma in all matches during the highly competitive tournament. And, after playing with heart, intensity and talent, Altamirano made the all-tournament team in singles and the duo of Altamirano and partner J.C. Aragone earned all-tourney recognition in doubles.

Cheer Sacramento to hold Zumba fundraiser to benefit the Mustard Seed School

Do you love Zumba?  Here’s your chance to participate in a superhero-themed Master Class AND help raise money to help homeless children in the Sacramento region! 

Cheer Sacramento will be holding a Zumba Master Class fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 to raise money for their 2014-2015 beneficiary, the Mustard Seed School.  The class will be held at George Washington Carver School of the Arts (10101 System Parkway, Sacramento 95827). Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero or wear superhero-themed clothing.
