Arden Hills-trained Collin Altamirano plays role in University of Virginia winning NCAA championship

Collin Altamirano, a rising national tennis champion on scholarship at the University of Virginia (UVa) who continues to train at JMG Tennis Academy at Arden Hills in the off season, played a key role in the men’s tennis team winning the NCAA Championship title on May 19, 2015.  Ranked third going into the tournament, the Cavaliers defeated top-seeded Oklahoma in a 4-1 victory in Waco, Texas.  In fact, Virginia defeated Oklahoma in all matches during the highly competitive tournament. And, after playing with heart, intensity and talent, Altamirano made the all-tournament team in singles and the duo of Altamirano and partner J.C. Aragone earned all-tourney recognition in doubles.

Cheer Sacramento to hold Zumba fundraiser to benefit the Mustard Seed School

Do you love Zumba?  Here’s your chance to participate in a superhero-themed Master Class AND help raise money to help homeless children in the Sacramento region! 

Cheer Sacramento will be holding a Zumba Master Class fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 to raise money for their 2014-2015 beneficiary, the Mustard Seed School.  The class will be held at George Washington Carver School of the Arts (10101 System Parkway, Sacramento 95827). Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero or wear superhero-themed clothing. Free flu vaccinations for the community with Sacramento Kings star player Rudy Gay

With influenza season still upon us, it’s not too late to protect yourself from catching the flu. So take a shot with the Kings.

 

Kaiser Permanente is teaming up with the Sacramento Kings to offer the best defense against the flu – vaccination – at a special event Tuesday, February 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. featuring small forward Rudy Gay, Slamson and the Sacramento Kings dancers. Kaiser Permanente doctors are the team physicians of the Sacramento Kings.

Free flu shots will be available to the community at Kaiser Permanente Point West Medical Offices, 1650 Response Road, Sacramento, 95815 (across Exposition Boulevard from Cal Expo). Gay will sign autographs for the first 150 fans from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Parking will be on-site and free.

Anyone in need of a flu shot is encouraged to attend the event, which is open to nonmembers and members of Kaiser Permanente.

Sacramento chosen for 2017 NCAA Basketball Tourney


INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Brooklyn, New York, and Des Moines, Iowa, will host NCAA men's basketball tournament games for the first time in 2016.

The NCAA announced Monday that the other 2016 preliminary round sites are Providence, St. Louis, Raleigh, North Carolina, Oklahoma City, Denver and Spokane, Washington. Regionals will be played in Philadelphia, Chicago, Louisville, Kentucky, and Anaheim, California.

The 2017 tourney games will be played in Buffalo, New York; Indianapolis; New York; Greensboro, North Carolina; Milwaukee; Orlando, Florida; Salt Lake City; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Sacramento, California. Regionals will be in Kansas City; San Jose, California; Memphis, Tennessee; and New York.
