Supermoon in El Dorado County

SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA - This was shot in El Dorado County California at 8:15 p.m. 5.5.12 on the Ponderosa Road overcrossing at HWY 50 (near the recent meteor explosion and meteorite dusting back on April 22, 2012).

Hoped to get it coming up over the Sierra, but it was sneaky and came up further south and higher in the sky than I wanted it to be, but still pretty. Little instant tail gate party going on with all the area folks hanging out on the overcrossing waiting for it to show up.

All asparagus is green.    Lies!  

What makes asparagus such a “hot” topic in the culinary world?  Because it actually comes in three colors!  These colors are green, white and purple.  White is actually the most common color of asparagus in Europe.  Is color the only difference?

     Green asparagus gets its color in the photosynthesis process.  This means that it has been touched with sunlight and chlorophyll is produced within the plants to turn green in color.  How does the asparagus stay white?  By never touching the sunlight!  White asparagus is grown underneath a large mound of dirt and harvested before it ever reaches the top.   Purple asparagus is different from the green and white because it has higher sugar content.  The purple actually has 20% more sugar then the other two.  Purple asp

Join our volunteers for a walk through our award-winning Historic Rose Garden. What: Free Electronic Waste Drop off Fundraiser, Participants won’t even have to get out of their car. Pop the trunk or open the door and we will unload for you!

Why:  To raise funds for the expansion of the Merryhill Millcreek Elementary School library to support our school literacy program.
