Volunteers Help Make CIM A Success

After Vice President Cliff Billings of Sacramento Region Citizen Corps (SRCCC) learned about the California International Marathon (CIM) he invited Eli Asch with CIM to meet with the SRCCC Executive Board. The SRCCC Board knew that the volunteer groups which make up SRCCC could help in a big way including CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams), MRC (Medical Reserve Corps), and VIPs (Volunteers in Partnership with the Police & Sheriff Dept.). SRCCC CIM volunteer participants included community CERT volunteers from Sacramento City Fire Dept., Metro Fire Dept., West Sacramento Fire Dept. and Consumnes/Galt Fire Dept.

CERT educates and trains community members about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. CERT members have spent many hours training with their neighborhood Fire Dept. and use that training learned in the classroom and during exercises to respond to an emergency or participate in proactive events in their neighborhood, workplace or wherever the need may arise. Call your local Fire Dept. to find out about the free training available to you and the different community events in which they participate.

Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps (SMRC) recruits, trains, deploys, and retains volunteer health professionals and support volunteers who contribute their skills and expertise to support Emergency Management Systems already in place, prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living  SMRC members supplement and strengthen existing emergency and public health resources throughout the year. Our mission is to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resiliency.

Join a team of active and retired professionals, trained community volunteers and support volunteers. Help improve the health of our community and help the Sacramento Region to be more prepared for and respond to daily needs, disasters, crisis, and large-scale medical emergencies through CERT, SMRC, VIPS, HAMs, Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy or Inter-Faith Volunteer Ministers.
